About: Housed at the University of Wisconsin - Madison’s School of Medicine and Public Health, MATEC-WI provides HIV-related training, education and technical assistance to healthcare providers and organizations in Wisconsin. These trainings are designed for newer and experienced clinicians working in a variety of settings, including academic medical centers, federally qualified and community health centers, primary care clinics, and state and local agencies. We offer virtual and in-person workshops and lectures, case conferences, hands-on supervised clinical training, and specialty conferences.

Ongoing Program Offerings:

  • Advanced HIV Workshop - We partner with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Communicable Diseases Harm Reduction Section to present this intensive workshop on a key topic in HIV each year. The workshop is designed for experienced HIV providers, and features national or regional experts, case discussions, and opportunities to explore a key topic in HIV within a local context.
  • HIV Treaters Case Conference Meeting Series - This is our signature program series for HIV providers in Wisconsin. Each program virtually connects HIV care team members from across the state for 1-hour, case-based discussions on HIV prevention and care. Facilitated by key leaders in HIV care, the meetings feature lively discussions and are an important resource for both experienced and newer HIV providers.
  • CDC CBA Track B Network - We partner with Washington University in St. Louis’s CDC CBA Track B team to provide capacity building assistance training and support to clinics and providers. These activities build and strengthen nonclinical HIV testing and prevention for people who are HIV-negative or at risk of acquiring HIV.
  • Misinformation Series - Each year, we provide a training series centered around dispelling myths and misinformation related to HIV prevention and care. These trainings feature vibrant panel discussions with local and regional experts and explore a variety of medical and social factors around misinformation and HIV.
  • Positive Sexuality Series - In response to growing need, and given providers frequently receive little-to-no sexuality education during professional training, MATEC-WI began our Positive Sexuality Series. These programs provide critical training on providing inclusive sexual healthcare along the HIV status neutral continuum, particularly for LGBTQ+ populations. Past programs have discussed sexuality, sexual orientation and gender identity, bisexual+ populations and HIV prevention, sexual health history taking, and considerations for transgender and nonbinary inclusive care.
