Updates to the Human Papillomavirus Disease Section of the Adult and Adolescent Oppotunistic Infections Guidelines

The Human Papillomavirus Disease section of the Guidlines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-infected Adults and adolescents was updated on March 7, 2018. The section has been updated to recommend the 9-valent HPV vaccine for women and men, and continued Pap and HPV testing for women who are over 65 and living with HIV. The revised text includes more information on oropharyngeal warts and cancer related to HPV. Click here to view guidelines (you will be redirected).

FDA approves Trogarzo, a new HIV treatment for patients who have limited treatment options

March 6, 2018

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Trogarzo (ibalizumab-uiyk), a new type of antiretroviral medication for adult patients living with HIV who have tried multiple HIV medications in the past (heavily treatment-experienced) and whose HIV infections cannot be successfully treated with other currently available therapies (multidrug resistant HIV, or MDR HIV). Trogarzo is administered intravenously once every 14 days by a trained medical professional and used in combonation with other antiretroviral medications. National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

March 20 marks National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a time to recognize the impact of HIV/AIDS on American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians (Collectively referred to as Native people). According to the Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 1 in 5 American Indians and Alaska Natives who were living with HIV in 2013 were unaware of their HIV-positive status.
